General Promotional Terms

  1. These terms and conditions (Terms) apply to all promotions, competitions and offers listed below.
  2. In these Terms, ‘PD’ means PD Insurance Limited, Pacific International Insurance Pty Limited (NZBN9429041356500 FSP 394846) and all related group companies (also referred to as ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’).
  3. All promotions, competitions and offers are only open to residents of New Zealand aged at least 18 years.
  4. By entering or taking up any PD Insurance competition, promotion or offer you agree to and accept all these Promotion Terms and Conditions, as well as the specific Terms and Conditions found below for the relevant competition, promotion or offer.
  5. Where relevant, policy terms, conditions and exclusions, and normal underwriting criteria apply.
  6. Information on how to enter the promotion, and all instructions appearing on advertisements, printed material or websites will form part of the Promotion Terms and Conditions for entry into these competitions and promotions and offers. To the extent of any inconsistency in the information shown on the advertisements, printed material or websites, these Promotion Terms and Conditions will prevail.
  7. All information submitted by you in respect of any promotion, competition or offer becomes the
  8. property of PD Insurance. PD Insurance will collect, hold, and use your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and any Act that Repeals or replaces it, and our Privacy Policy.
  9. In accordance with the applicable Privacy laws, all individuals have the right to access and correct their personal information held by PD Insurance.
  10. From time-to-time PD Insurance may also use your information to provide you with communications updating you on the full range of services it offers.   11. Where a prize is to be given, PD Insurance reserves the right to request winners of any prizes to provide proof of identity, proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address and/or proof of entry validity. In the event that such proof is not provided by the prize winner, or is not satisfactory to PD Insurance, then that prize winner shall forfeit their rights to any prize.
  12. PD Insurance reserves the right to change, suspend or cancel applicable terms and conditions for a competition, promotion or offer at any time. Where a benefit has already been promised, PD Insurance will honour it on the same Terms as were promised in the Terms prior to the change, suspension or cancellation.
  13. If for any reason any competition, promotion or offer is not capable of running as planned, PD Insurance may suspend, cancel or modify this Promotion.
  14. PD Insurance will not be liable for any loss, claim, cost, expense, liability, or injury suffered by any person in any way associated with any promotions, competitions or offers, or for any prizes, except where such loss cannot be excluded by law.
  15. All competitions, promotions or offers are subject to their individual specific terms as listed below.
  16. This Promotion is bound by the laws of New Zealand and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.

Puppy & Kitten Terms & Conditions

Available for Puppies and Kittens aged between 6 weeks and 30 weeks of age (inclusive) for up to 8 weeks.

Cover provides a fixed amount of veterinary fees to cover emergency veterinary treatment for illness or injury required in this period. 

No claim excess payable. Cover starts on the date that you receive your Certificate of Insurance from us and expires on the day that is eight weeks after the Commencement Date as shown on your Certificate of Insurance (the Expiry Date).

We will contact you before your Free Puppy and Kitten Cover expires to provide a quotation for you to consider your pets ongoing insurance needs with us.

If you choose to continue with a month-to-month policy and is this in place with us before the Expiry Date, any ongoing treatment your Puppy or Kitten requires will be covered up to the selected policy benefits you have chosen for your fur baby.  We will waiver any additional waiting periods as we consider the time on risk with your new fur baby with us.

Free Puppy and Kitten Cover is non-transferable/ not redeemable for cash. All decisions we make on this cover shall be final.

We will pay up to a maximum sum of $1,000 NZD (incl GST) for all valid claims accepted by us.

Activation of Cover

This should take no more 48 hours. You will receive a Certificate of Insurance, which will include the terms and conditions of cover.

When Making a Claim

You will need to provide itemised original tax receipts and medical history notes that state a diagnosis and treatment, submit to [email protected] or by calling 0800 738 467.

We will not be responsible or liable for any claims, costs or losses of any kind relating to or because of:

  • tests, treatment, or medication that are not directly related to an injury or illness.
  • any claim in our view that we deemed pre-existing or where treatment has been delayed pending activation of cover.
  • all parasite control (for ticks, fleas, mites, worms and similar) or any condition related
  • to these parasites (including, but not limited to Demodectic mange).
  • Worming, vaccinations, microchipping, desexing /neutering.
  • information not disclosed (whether wilful, accidental, negligent, or otherwise).
  • house calls or other visits and any travel costs relating to these.
  • extra costs for treating your pet outside normal surgery hours, unless your veterinarian advises that an emergency consultation is medically necessary.
  • inherited or congenital defects.
  • dentistry, unless as a direct result of an accident.
  • cosmetic surgery of any kind (including, but not limited to dew claws)
  • Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) or Parvovirus.
  • umbilical hernias; and
  • damage or injury to any person or property caused by you or your pet.
  • Any claims for a pet not named in the Certificate of Insurance.
  • Any claims made for any event, accident, illness, incident, or injury that happens outside of the period of insurance or prior to the activation of this cover.
  • Any death or destruction of your pet because of illness resulting from the failure to vaccinate your pet in accordance with the practice recommended by the New Zealand Veterinary Association.
  • Any claims for a pet under the age of six weeks.
  • Any claims under any section of cover where your pet is over 30 weeks at the start of the policy.
  • Any claims arising outside the territorial limits of the New Zealand.
  • Malicious or wilful injury or gross negligence to your pet caused by you, your agents, employees, or members of your family.
  • Any medication or treatment not recommended by a vet.
  • Puppies of dogs that are listed as banned by the New Zealand Government on any banned local authority register or listing.
  • The recurrence or continuation of illness or disease from which your Puppy or Kitten has previously suffered arising prior the start of this insurance or any pre-existing condition.
  • The recurrence or continuation of an injury or disease resulting from an injury from which your Puppy or Kitten previously suffered arising prior to the start of this cover.
  • Any infringement of NZ animal health and importation legislation.


Certain words or phrases have a particular meaning are are explained below:


Means the owner of the pet notified to us in your application and we/us/our means PD Insurance.

Upgrading your Cover

Should you decide to start a premium paying policy within the 8 weeks allowed, the level of cover will be changed to reflect the cover applicable to your new premium paying policy.

Dual Insurance

If at the time of any incident which results in a claim under this policy, there is another insurance covering the same illness, injury, bodily injury, death, damage, destruction, expense, or liability we will not pay compensation unless that cover has been fully exhausted.


A sudden/ unexpected external event which happens during the period of insurance resulting in physical bodily injury or death to your pet.


Any treatment of the teeth gums or mouth.

Claims Excess

The amount you are required to pay as part of certain claims made under the policy if any.

Working Dogs

This policy excludes all pets used for commercial/ security or trained for work.


Any clinical sign of injury or illness in your pet.


Clinical sign or symptoms of changes in normal healthy state resulting from one individual accident, including directly or indirectly related problems. 


Changes in your pets’ state of health that are not caused by an accident, or any which may be resulting from gradual or biological cause.

Pre-existing Condition

Any illness or injury or complication directly resulting from an injury or illness, whether diagnosed or undiagnosed that has been identified or investigated by a vet or is otherwise known to you prior to the start of the insurance.

Period of Insurance

The period for which your pet is covered as shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
